![]() Hifiman Susvara, Sennheiser HD800, ZMF Atrium headphones AudioQuest Niagara 5000 power conditioner If you’d like to see more about the design and objective performance of the DAC then please see the measurements post here: TBD.īut for now, let’s talk about the sound you get with this DAC. The LA4 was only recently beaten by the Holo Serene.Īnd the DAC3 boasts quite a lot of impressive objective specs, but perhaps more importantly, care and attention paid to areas that are critically important but where most people would not look.įor example the DAC3 has quite a lot of internal digital headroom to ensure that it does not clip what is known as ‘intersample overs’, something which occurs a lot on many DACs where no extra headroom is given.īut, I personally have had a bit of a mixed experience with Benchmark products from a subjective standpoint I absolutely adore the AHB2 and it’s still one of my favourite amplifiers, but the HPA4 headphone amp was in my opinion too clinical/sterile sounding and was beaten by other well measuring products like the Singxer SA-1. The AHB2 is to my knowledge still the lowest distortion speaker amplifier available. The level of information provided is typically rivalled only by companies like RME with their somewhat famous ADI-2 manual.Īnd their products across all categories are typically some of if not the highest objective performing in most areas. When you buy a Benchmark product you get a thorough manual complete with not only operational guidance, but technical information and measurements too. I deliberately avoid measuring until I have finalised my subjective impressions to avoid objective behaviour influencing my opinion.īenchmark is a company known for a straightforward, transparent and objective approach to their product design and marketing. NOTE: Subjective impressions and review are written BEFORE measuring the device. Sorry if this wasn’t articulated well and long winded.Content and analysis made possible thanks to support from, and supporters. Yeah now I have to get their DAC and audition it. I was gonna keep just the AHB2 and send the LH4 pre back. You can turn it up all the way, put your ear to the tweeter.and nothing. Yes reverb trails if the mix had that in it.Īnything you put on. This is a whole different level.ĭepth is just what the mix and room it was recorded in says. I have zero clue what you are taking about. Put back the benchmark I was there in the studio again. I’m not joking I felt like I was in sunset studios listening to them. This album through the Benchmark gear blew me away. I have a Marshall plexi like Ed’s and I know what it sounds like. You can HEAR the room they are playing in. Yes putting in the LH4 preamp made a huge difference. They sound spot on with the benchmark gear ![]() ![]() As in practiced them and know how to play them. ![]() I am a musician and know what instruments sound like. The timing of the benchmark AHB2 and LH4 is spot on. What I mean is that the NAIM was fast but congested. Mind you the rega for listening pleasure is seriously good. Wanted to wait before I reported back on my listening. I waited a month listening to these to review them. If their power amp sounds so good, the preamp much be good as well Sorry for those who like those amps.Īfter listening to the benchmark AHB2 for a week I of course got the itch to try the Benchmark LH4 pre. When I first got my rega I tried a NAIM X3 next to it and didn’t like the NAIM at all. Really wanted to try the Benchmark AHB2 so I got one to audition and run my rega pre through it. I started off with my Rega Elex R, Marantz HD DAC1 and Proac DT 8 speakers. Feels weird reviewing something whereas so many more here have much more experience than me but here goes.
